Reflection Chicago Band

Chicago Band.

In grade 11 I played in the music band for the school's musical Chicago. This band include two other students, the music teachers, Ms Cuneo and Mr Anderson, as well as some parents. For these perfomances during the school's musical we had a lot of rehearsal during lunch and we had rehearsed with the whole cast of the play for a few days for hours. It was a lot of fun but also stressful and performing was quite scary.

Time: 20 hours creativity

Reflection

Reflection based on the learning outcomes:
  • show perseverance and commitment:  This activity was quite challenging for me because i have stage fright,so i really had to work hard to be able to perform. furthermore we had a lot of rehearsal and sometimes we had to play the same piece over and over again in order to get them right. this took quite some perseverance and a few students in the band decided to quit with the activity. in the end i had a lot of fun and i was proud at myself for going through with it
  • working collaboratively with others: of course to be in a band we all had to work together and make sure we had the same timing. furthermore sometimes we had to help eachother to make sure everyone was doing okay. moreover we also had to work with the cast and we had to play songs repeatedly so they could rehearse their dances with the music and make sure the timing was right. lastly I also helped the male cast members when it was time for them to put on their stage make up which was quite difficult for them. the activity has made me more confident when working with others and has improved my collaboration skills

Reflection based on the learner profile:
  • risk taker:  Because I have stage fright this was quite a scary situation for me, but i did really want to perform. in the end with all the rehearsal the performance went quite well and i made sure i didnt miss anything. doing this activity has made me a bit less scared when performing and it was definitely worth the risk because we all had a lot of fun and everything went really well
  • reflective:  of course to perform in a group and to do well I also had to be reflective and rehearse the songs that were more difficult by myself so i could keep improving and that the whole band would sound better. doing this made me become more reflective and think about my own skills and what to improve. this is also good to apply to my classes and other hobbies
