Reflection Concert band

Concert Band

At the start of my last school year I joined the school's concert band. I did this because I could not take the music course in the IB. Futhermore it also gave me more oppurtunity to play flute more often. In the concert band we play a range of piece which is a lot of fun. It also gives me the oppurtunity to improve more on my skills. Moreover I also help the music teacher set up the room beforehand and clean up afterwards.

Reflection

reflection based on the learning outcomes
  • Increased awareness of your strengths and areas of growth: Playing in the concert band requires me to be aware of which music pieces I am strong in and on which piece I need to spend more time rehearsing. This activity enables me to increase my awareness of my own strengths and areas of growth, also outside of the concert band and allows me to apply it in my classes. It is important to be aware of my strenghts and weaknesses so I can make sure that I will be better each rehearsal.
  • working collaboratively with others: This activity has helped me a great deal with working collaboratively with others. Playing in a concert means everyone has to have a good communication with eachother and it requires everyone to work together. furthermore it means that sometimes others need more help and that you have to be quiet so that they can be helped, which will eventually make the whole of the music piece sound better. moreover in concert band sometimes you have to help others who may be less experienced.

Reflection based on the learner profile
  • Reflective: This activity requires me to be reflective of my own skills and more importantly my weaknesses. If I was not reflective I would not be able to improve on the musical pieces and improve my skills. Furthermore it also helps me to be more reflective in my classes.

Reflection international day

Dutch international day stand

On December the 19th 2013 we had a meeting to discuss the plans for the Dutch stand at international. During this meeting we voted for the ambassador of the stand, which ended up being me. As ambassador I tried to  make sure everyone had a voice during this meeting and together we planned our stand. On December the 20th it was international day, in the morning we set up the stand together. We had a lot of fun together and we had some funny ways of promoting our stand.

Time: 5 hours service

  • Planned and iniated activities: For this activity I had to plan what everyone would bring to the stand and how we would organise our stand because we were sharing with Belgium. Furthermore I also had to make sure our plans were realistic and that no one forgot anything.
  • working collaboratively with others: During this activity I had to work a lot with the other members of our Dutch stand and because we had such a large group there was a second ambassador of the stand. During the day we also had to make sure that some people stayed at the stand whilst others were walking around. This also meant that we had to work together quite well.

Reflection based on the learner profile

  • Principled: In order to be a good ambassador I also had to make sure the tasks were divided equally and that we all got to spend an equal time walking around and staying at the stand. of course to do this I had to be fair. Furthermore as ambassador I was also  responsible if something went wrong.
  • Communicator: For our stand to be a great stand of course we had to be good at communicating so that there would be no misunderstandings. The stand seemed to do well and everyone got along during the day. Furthermore without good communication we would not have been organised.

Reflection make-up for the school play

Make-up for the production of a Christmas Carol

On December the 11th 2014 I did the make-up for the school's production of a christmas carol. I went over to the theatre after lunch to discuss the make-up with the cast members and came up with ideas how to do the make-up they wanted. I mainly did the main characters that needed special make-up, for example one of the characters had to look like a ghost. I had a lot of fun doing the make-up and the actors seemed to be impressed with how they looked with the make-up.

This is one of the actors I did the make-up for. She was the ghost of christmas present so she had to look quite colourfull.

  • Undertaken new challenges: Before doing the make-up for the play I had not really done anything with make-up on a scale like this. I liked doing make-up and especially special make-up or halloween make-up but I had not done it for so many others under time pressure. Doing the activity helped me being able to do this for others and not just on my own face and furthermore it helped me being able to deal with time pressure because i had to make sure the actors were ready on time and some of them needed a make-up change during the play.
  • Working collaboratively with others: In this activity I had to work collaboratively with others because I had to discuss with the people directing the play and the actors how they wanted their make-up to look. Furthermore I was also working with Mrs Burton so we had to communicate with each other on how to divide the tasks. I think doing the activity was good for my communication skills and it was great working with the other students and the teachers who were helping with the play.

Reflection based on the learner profile

  • Open-minded: During this activity I was very open-minded and listened to the ideas of others on how to do the make-up and how to improve some of the costumes that they had. Some of the actors came up with some great ideas and we were able to work out those ideas together.
  • Communicator: In this activity I had to be a good communicator in order to listen to the ideas of others  and change some things for what they wanted. Furthermore some of the actors were really nervous so I aslo tried to comfort them, especially those who really disliked other people doing their make-up
