Reflection tennis

Tennis lessons

During the summer i went on a summer camp to Bedford, a small town near London. I went with a French group and stayed with a British host family. In the mornings we would have english classes, and because I already speak english I would be able to help the teachers. In the afternoon we would have tennis classes. This was a great way to learn a new skill, or for me to pick it up again because i  have played tennis before. The camp was also a great way for md to improve my french by talking to the other kids, who were all french and aged from 15 to 17. Furthermore the camp was also great to learn more about the english culture and we saw some great places such as London and Cambridge

Time: 18 hours (all action)

Reflection

reflection based on the learning outcomes;

·        undertaken new challenges

Doing this activity was quite scary for me at first, I was going to a country I had never been to, with french kids while I don't speak french very well and i was going to stay with people i had never met.
because I'm also quite shy I was quite nervous as well but it ended up being a lot of fun and i talked to the french kids a lot which helped my french and their english and I really connected with my host family

 ·        increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
i think the activity has made me realise that I'm actually not so bad at talking with other people and that I can be social and not shy all the time. I also think it made me want to play tennis more again because at the end i wasn't so bad after all. i think some areas i could grow in is speaking in front of people and definitely my french wasn't the best but during the camp it was great for me to practise speaking

·        worked collaboratively with others

During the tennis classes we also did some team activities and double tennis matches. this was a great way to work together with the other french kids and we had a lot of fun. in the mornings we would also work together when they were learning english and i think that was also a great way for them to improve their english and for us to work together

 ·        shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
With all the activities I was definitely always on time. because we went during the summer the classes were pretty hard to take because it was extremly warm when we were there, there was an heat wave in England just as we got there so it was actually really hot. this made it a bit hard to play sometimes but we all kept going, all though it meant we had to put on sunscreen a lot, because the first day we all got a sunburn!
·        developed new skills
Because I only played tennis for a short period of time when I was about 10 it was great to play tennis again and have classes. the classes were great and I definitely learned some good tennis skills. i think i can say that at the end of the 2 weeks i did improve. during the camp i think i also improved some of my french skills and a bit of my social skills

Reflection based on the learner profile

Communicators:

while doing this activity I worked together with others and also communicated a lot with the teachers which was great to learn more about the english culture

risk-taker :
because I was the only non french kid in the group it was quite a risk and scary for me because i was scared i wouldn't fit in. In the end it all went well yet i still found it scary to speak in french because i was afraid i would make mistakes

reflective:
when i think back about the activity i do see that i did have some helpful strengths and it allowed me to help the others with their english for instance during tennis class, because if they didn't understand something i would be able to translate it for them. it also made me see that i definitely have some areas to improve on, such as being confident when speaking another language

Caring:
during the activity i did certainly help others for example as i mentioned before i helped the others when they did not understand what the tennis teachers were saying, this was actually also helpful for the tennis teachers because they didn't really speak french so i was able to translate a little for both sides.
